The Newfoundland and Labrador Human Rights Commission wishes to advise the public that the Human Rights Award Ceremony will not take place in 2025. As a result, no nominations for the Human Rights Award will be accepted this year.
Since 2015, the Commission has proudly hosted the annual Human Rights Award Ceremony, recognizing individuals and organizations who have made an outstanding contribution to advancing human rights in our province.
Over the past decade, recipients have included Sister Margie Taylor (2015), Mark Gruchy (2016), Susan Rose (2017), Kim White (2018), Jessie Lawrence (2019), Craig Reid (2020), John Mweemba (2021), Kim & Todd Churchill (2022), Courtney Clarke (2023), and Charlie Murphy (2024). Throughout the years, many Human Rights Champions, individuals who have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to equality and justice, have also been recognized for their efforts.
The past 10 years of conducting the Human Rights Award Ceremony has been rewarding and impactful, both for the Commission and for the many community members who have been celebrated. The Commission remains committed to recognizing and advancing human rights in Newfoundland and Labrador and thanks the community for its ongoing support and engagement. This year, the Commission is taking the opportunity to reconsider its priorities and explore new ways to celebrate and promote human rights in the province.
